According to the official FAQs, it is not possible to write code directly for SigmaDSPs: FAQ: Can I write C or assembly code for SigmaDSP in SigmaStudio?
It looks like the graphical development environment is the only method that is supported.
However, if your colleague has some internal contact at ADI, it might be worthwhile to try confirming that directly with an ADI engineer.
