I am sorry to hear that you are still having problems. The soft reset should be issued at the beginning, when the device has been powered ON. This makes sure that all the registers in the memory map go to their default values. This soft reset can be issued by writing 0x3C to register 0x00. The 0x00 register is a self clearing register; so after issuing a soft reset (0x00 = 0x3C), it should read 0x18 to show the default value.
After you have written all your SPI registers, you can then issue a Device Reset signal by writing 0x03 to register 0x08, and then writing 0x00 to register 0x08.
