percy, Part of processing (to be precise, tier 2 encoding - packetizing and rate control) is done in FPGA in both cases. Wavelet transform and tier 1 encoding (entropy coding) is done in ADV212 in both cases too. Accelerator system due to lower number of ADV212 chips can not process video data in real time and typically is used for post-production encoding. Real-time systems work, for example, in cinema theaters for real-time decoding. Besides, real-time systems often are designed with redundancy and this increases number of AVD212 parts need to build such system even more.
