We have a national ID project in Turkey, which all old ID cards will be changed with smart card included new ID cards. We as PAVO electronics design and production company(www.pavo.com.tr) has an ID card reader project (we expect millions of device is needed) for government services to citizens, which is funded by government. In this reader we will have a fingerprint reader module about 500 dpi resolution. There are USB interfaced fingerprint devices on the market, but they are quite expensive.
I know there is an application note (EE325) for Blackfin fingerprint sensor reading application note with ATMEL's obsolete AT77C104.
I wonder anybody knows, if there is fingerprint image processing algorithms for Blackfin DSP in Analog Devices ((or ARM cortex A5/M4)?
I expect the performance of new low cost/low power BF70x will be very good solution for our card reader project.
I wonder if you suggest any optical/capacitive fingerprint sensor?
