I was reviewing the AduM4160 Datasheet and CN0160, CN0159, CN0158 Circuit notes as well as the various application notes and discussions on this page. I cannot find an explanantion for the addition of the high voltage safety capacitors providing an ac path around the 4160 isolation barrier. I understand what they do but don't see a reason to add them unless it is EMC/EMI related or to speed up the determination of the "Data Direction" . Does anyone have insight as to their purpose? The capacitors are large and relatively expensive as well as provide an additional breakdown path on the interface so I don't want to add them unless there is good reason. Thanks for the help.
